Vintages in Alsace

The location of the Alsatian vineyard, the crossroads of Germanic and Roman influences, tells the story of a culture brought by the Romans, then revived by the Merovingians and Carolingians which are large consumption this wine. Before the end of the first millennium, 160 Alsatian locations cultivate the vine and in the Middle Ages, the wines of Alsace already among the most prestigious in Europe. The vineyard truly reborn after World War I when the winemakers engage in a quality policy by choosing produce wines made from Typical varietals. By 1945, this policy is extended by the definition of areas of the vineyard and setting strict rules of production and winemaking. Finally, it is crowned by the recognition of AOCs in 1962, Alsace Grand Cru in 1975 and Cr�mant d'Alsace in 1976. Today, gathered in the CIVA, producers and traders all contribute to the influence of Alsace wines in the world.
